Smart Metering & Smart Grids Requirements & Design
We delivered smart grid network requirements for Smart Metering for representatives of the network companies. This involved managing the multi-stakeholder work-streams to deliver: Smart Metering System Requirements and Use Case definitions with respect to the functionality required; Data Traffic Analysis; Security and Privacy requirements; and cost benefit analysis.
We have a proven track record of specifying smart metering and grid requirements and design specifications for smart equipment. We have delivered both the retail and network smart metering requirements for Great Britain as well as contributing to the UK Government’s technical specifications as part of the Government's Smart Metering Implementation Project. We have worked globally developing international smart metering standards, particularly as part of European standards groups, but also in supporting Use Case development and associated projects for the European Smart Metering Industry Group (ESMIG), a European Trade Organisation.
Trade Association - Engage has been managing the industry GB supplier requirements for smart metering programme on behalf for the last 5 years, focussing on meter specifications, interoperability, consumer behaviour, roll out options, in-home displays, communications, and interaction with in-home devices. Engage has facilitated joint workshops between suppliers and network operators on demand response and demand side management, both key elements to the smart grid of the future.
Trade Association - Liaised with small and large suppliers, meter asset providers (MAP's) and other industry parties to identify common requirements for MAP churn contracts to reduce costs and benefit consumers. This involved identifying individual requirements and areas of diversity through bilateral discussions and group workshops and drafting final proposals for approval to meet the needs of all parties whilst strictly adhering to competition law.
European Trade Organisation - Developed a ‘Metering Standards Resource’ used to progress the development of EU standards in the area of smart metering. This involved producing a country profile for 30 European countries that covered electricity, gas, water and heat metering, with details of smart metering developments for each sector and country and compiling a comprehensive database of all existing standards that could be relevant for smart meters on an international, European and national level for electricity, gas, water and heat.
Trade Association - We delivered the smart grid project capturing their smart grid network requirements and Use Cases for smart metering. We ensured that specific business needs and concerns were addressed and positioned them to influence Government and Ofgem developments. We managed the multi-stakeholder work-streams to deliver: Smart Metering System Requirements and Use Case definitions specifically with respect to the functionality required; Data Traffic Analysis; Security and Privacy requirements; and corresponding cost benefit analysis.
