Most Suppliers have significant issues with the quality of their non half hourly (NHH) settlement data.
Background

These issues typically stem from migration prior to implementation of the 1998 deregulated market or subsequent business process failures within the client's systems or those of their competitors.

Such issues can result in:

Increased customer complaints
Inefficient business processes
Deployment of resources to resolve large quantities of errors
Increased costs to serve
Increased risk of imbalance settlement due to difficulties in forecasting
Inaccuracies in customer billing, Distribution Use of System (DUoS) and Transmission Network Use of System (TUoS) charges.
Many Suppliers have attempted to address the data quality issues but very few have been successful. Limitations with the traditional D0095 approach to identifying exceptions have undermined Suppliers efforts. The overly complex reporting timetable and absence of supporting information to resolve exceptions mean that this approach does not work.

Engage consulting has thorough knowledge of the NHH settlement data processes and extensive practical experience in making those processes work. We have established a successful data cleansing method and developed a solution called E+ to automate this. The solution is based on proven techniques and has delivered significant data quality improvements at our clients.
Our unique approach obtains a bespoke data extract from the Data Aggregator that reports periodically on the exceptions that have occurred in the entire settlement window. This simplifies the reporting schedule and, when loaded into E+ along with the D150s from Meter Operators, provides the information required to address exceptions. A maintainable Knowledge Base utilises this information and recommends the appropriate corrective action.
A second data extract identifies meters that are approaching final reconciliation without an annualised advance (AA) and these are also loaded for analysis and corrective action so that performance standards can be attained.
The solution stands alone and does not need to be integrated into existing system architectures. It provides users with full control with full visibility.

E+ overcomes the weaknesses that are inherent in the traditional D0095 approach and provides an effective and efficient method of resolving exceptions and improving data quality.
This leads to more efficient use of resources and improved accuracy of customer billing, settlement charges, demand forecasting and UoS billing. It also leads to improved performance of energy settled on actual data (AAs) against the BSC standards.
