Building on five years of expertise to drive gas market efficiency and fairness
We are proud to announce that Engage Consulting has been selected to continue as the Allocation of Unidentified Gas Expert (AUGE) for an additional three-year term, extending our service through 2028. This appointment builds on our successful five-year tenure from 2020 to 2025, during which we have established robust methodologies and maintained the trust of industry stakeholders across the GB gas market.
Matthew Johnson, Chief Executive of Engage Consulting, commented: “We are really pleased to be extending our strong relationship with Xoserve and are looking forward to collaborating with gas shippers on cost reduction and process improvements. Our expanded remit represents an exciting opportunity to drive greater efficiency across the gas settlement process whilst continuing to ensure fair cost allocation for all market participants.”
Enhanced Scope for Greater Industry Impact
Our renewed appointment comes with an expanded remit that reflects the evolving needs of the gas industry. Whilst we will continue to provide our core service of impartial assessment of unidentified gas sources and fair cost allocation, we now have the additional responsibility of working proactively to reduce the volume of unidentified gas entering the system.
This enhanced scope presents an exciting opportunity to drive meaningful efficiency improvements across the gas settlement process. By working collaboratively with gas shippers and industry stakeholders, we can identify innovative approaches to minimise unidentified gas at source, ultimately benefiting consumers through more accurate cost allocation and reduced system inefficiencies.
Proven Track Record of Excellence
Since our appointment in 2020, Engage Consulting has successfully navigated complex industry changes whilst maintaining the impartiality and technical expertise that the AUGE role demands. Our approach has consistently prioritised transparency, stakeholder engagement, and robust methodology development, ensuring that the allocation of unidentified gas costs supports effective competition across the market.
The AUGE role requires deep technical understanding of gas settlements, shipper processes, and market dynamics. Our team combines this expertise with a commitment to clear communication, ensuring that our complex analyses and methodologies remain accessible to all industry participants.
Supporting Market Competition and Consumer Benefits
The fair allocation of unidentified gas costs remains fundamental to maintaining effective competition in the GB gas market. Our impartial approach ensures that these costs are distributed equitably, supporting competitive pricing that ultimately benefits consumers.
Through our continued partnership with Xoserve and ongoing engagement with the AUG Sub-Committee, we will build on the transparency and stakeholder involvement that have characterised our service to date.
About the AUGE Role
The Allocation of Unidentified Gas Expert is an independent industry expert appointed to develop methodologies for fairly sharing unidentified gas costs between market participants. Unidentified gas represents the difference between gas entering local distribution zones and gas allocated to individual shippers, arising from various technical and operational factors. The AUGE will now develop a methodology statement and weighting factors every three years to ensure that these costs are allocated fairly, thereby supporting effective market competition.
