DESNZ appoints Lorenzo Wong as International Energy Agency delegate for heat networks

We are delighted to announce that Lorenzo Wong has been appointed as the UK’s Alternate Delegate for the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Technology Collaboration Programme (TCP) on District Heating and Cooling. DESNZ has chosen Lorenzo to run the UK’s TCP activities for heat networks and produce outputs that feed international research and expertise into national policymaking.

The IEA works with countries around the world to shape energy policies for a secure and sustainable future. Its TCPs are independent, international groups of experts that enable governments and industries from around the world to lead programmes and projects on a wide range of energy technologies. Lorenzo will work alongside DESNZ to represent the UK’s interests at the TCP on District Heating and Cooling.

The role builds on Lorenzo’s three years of experience at DESNZ where he led a team developing policy to establish a regulatory framework for heat networks. He will take on the role until 2029 on behalf of Engage Consulting, where he works as the company’s heat network subject matter expert.

Matthew Johnson, Chief Executive of Engage Consulting, commented: “Heat networks will play a significant role in UK heat decarbonisation and in providing flexibility services to the grid. Lorenzo’s appointment signals Engage’s rapid expansion into this sector, and we stand ready to support market participants prepare for regulation and guide investors looking to finance large-scale projects.”
