We are delighted to announce the promotion of Tom Desmond to Principal Consultant at Engage Consulting. It is a promotion that recognises not only the quality and consistency of Tom’s delivery for clients, but also the leadership, mentorship and commercial insight he brings to the wider business.
Since joining Engage in 2020, Tom has become a trusted advisor to clients across the GB energy landscape, supporting Suppliers, infrastructure investors and regulated market participants through some of the most significant changes the sector has seen in a generation.
Deep sector expertise, grounded in operational experience
Tom brings more than 20 years of experience in the GB energy market. Before joining Engage, he spent 15 years in the Energy Retail sector, leading customer service, customer operations, commercial and smart metering functions for Energy Suppliers.
That operational grounding is what makes Tom’s advisory work so valued by clients. Over the past six years at Engage, he has supported businesses right across the energy landscape, from metering solution providers and Large Energy Suppliers to infrastructure investors and financial services firms looking for confidence in the commercial and technical foundations of their investments.
His work has ranged from leading business strategy workshops and process optimisation assignments, to delivering Warm Home Discount and Feed‑in‑Tariff Levelisation auditing for Mandatory and Voluntary Licensees. He has also served as a Commercial Lead for a regulated co‑operative of GB Energy Suppliers, a role that brought together his technical knowledge, commercial awareness and understanding of how the retail market really works on the ground.
Tom’s approach is underpinned by formal credentials in both ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems (Lead Auditor) and ISO 31000:2018 Risk Management (Lead Auditor).

Stepping in to a Senior Leadership Role
The Principal Consultant role at Engage is a senior one, sitting at the heart of how we deliver for clients and grow the business. For Tom, it means continuing the client work he is known for while taking on a broader remit: building and maintaining senior‑level relationships across the energy sector and adjacent markets, and drawing on his well‑established network to spot the structural changes, development programmes and opportunities that matter most to our clients.
It is also a role that places real weight on people and culture. Tom will support and mentor consultants at every level of the business, championing the initiatives that shape our strategy and our brand. And, as with all of our senior consultants, he will bring the commercial judgement and awareness needed to anticipate risks and turn complex industry change into practical outcomes.
