Royston Black to Share Personal Perspective at Energy UK’s EDI Conference 2025

Championing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the Energy Sector

We’re delighted to announce that Royston Black, Principal Consultant at Engage Consulting, will be presenting a personal perspective at Energy UK’s flagship Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Conference 2025 on Tuesday, 15 July 2025.

The conference, jointly hosted by Energy UK, Energy Institute (EI), Energy Networks Association (ENA) and Ofgem, brings together leading professionals from across the energy industry at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in London. This one-day hybrid event provides a crucial platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices to drive lasting change in the sector and beyond.

A Personal Perspective on Non-Traditional Pathways

Royston will deliver his presentation at 11:20 AM, sharing his inspiring career journey in the energy sector. His unique perspective demonstrates the value of diverse career paths and highlights how professionals from all backgrounds can bring fresh insights and innovative approaches to energy challenges. His contribution forms part of a comprehensive programme that includes industry CEO discussions, panel sessions with senior leaders from major energy companies, and presentations from various EDI networks operating within the sector.

The conference programme features an impressive lineup of speakers, including trade association CEOs examining whether EDI remains a priority in the current global context, and representatives from organisations such as the Women’s Utilities Network, Energyz Black, Pride in Energy, and POWERful Women.

Engage Consulting’s Commitment to EDI

At Engage Consulting, we recognise that building a truly inclusive energy sector requires embracing talent from all backgrounds and career paths. As the industry continues its transformation towards Net Zero, we understand that diverse experiences, including those from non-traditional routes into energy, are essential for unlocking innovative solutions and delivering benefits for all consumers.

Our support for equity, diversity and inclusion extends beyond rhetoric to meaningful engagement with initiatives that drive real change. By participating in events such as the EDI Conference, as well as being a member of WUN, we demonstrate our commitment to fostering an energy sector that reflects the communities it serves.

Royston stated, “Being asked to present my experience from dropping out of college at 17 through to working on some of the industry’s biggest programmes and overcoming ‘imposter syndrome’ is great honour and I hope it inspires others who may have taken time to find their calling, that its never too late and they have value.”

The energy sector’s journey towards greater inclusivity requires a sustained effort from all stakeholders. By celebrating and learning from diverse career journeys, including those who have entered the sector through non-traditional pathways, we can build an industry that harnesses the full potential of varied experiences and perspectives.

“It’s great that Royston is contributing to this vital conversation.  His journey proves that where someone starts doesn’t determine where they’ll finish, and that the energy sector benefits when we look beyond traditional pathways and embrace talent from all backgrounds. True inclusivity means recognising that everyone’s route to expertise is unique and valuable. We’re proud to have team members who bring varied perspectives to the complex challenges facing the energy sector today.” commented Matthew Johnson, Chief Executive of Engage.

Looking Forward

The EDI Conference represents more than just a networking opportunity; it serves as a catalyst for the systemic change our industry needs. As we navigate the complexities of the energy transition, ensuring that diverse voices are heard and valued becomes increasingly critical to our collective success.

We’re proud to contribute to this critical conversation and look forward to the insights and connections that will emerge from this significant industry event.
