The scheme is supported by the UK government, industry, and academia, and is intended to encourage best practice and raise awareness of cyber security.
To become Cyber Essentials Accredited, a company must complete an assessment that covers five key areas: boundary firewalls and internet gateways; secure configuration; access control; malware protection; and patch management. These areas are considered to be the most important for protecting an organisation from common cyber attacks, and companies that pass the assessment are awarded a Cyber Essentials certificate.
